Millennials in the workplace

Last month, the web was burnt out after the video “Millennials in the Workplace”, by Simon Sinek. The recipe for success is unequivocal. Take a semi-famous management thinker, put it in a show, where the questioner is not-competent in the topic, and let the thinker say very harsh generalizations about a theme that is controversial.

So what has happened exactly in the video? He talked the distinction between the millennials and the previous generations, blaming each of them for various problems, concluding that everything is shit. During my search I came across a post, where the main points are listed. For me, the main thing is (Derek Sivers say the same about punishing employees in the workplace):

No one deserves to be lumped into a group and blamed for the activities of other people in that group.

It’s easy to grab someone out for bad behaviour and blaming everyone for this. Lazyness, entitledness and self-interestedness are basic human characteristics, with a distribution to the whole population. For every generation of youth, the problems are almost the same, just the coping strategies are different, due to different contexts. Today the social media, in the past the pot and the alcohol.
