Today, the hype about programming is so enormous, that even the just resigned Barack Obama made supporting campaigns about it. Non-profits and for-profits creating headlines about why should you pursue this magical career, what are the life changes that you will experience if you omit some Hello World() to the screen. So it’s a remarkable thing to be a programmer in the 21st century, isn’t?
The truth is, today’s average programmers are almost the same as factory workers at the Ford T-model era. Repetitive, non-creative, tedious work, that is suitable for the semi-skilled. Beyond the hype, I assume the main advantage come from the market prices, that the reward for your work hours are relatively high compared to more traditional jobs.
So the pendulum overshooted this time, we should advertise the definite drawbacks being a programmer. Spending your day’s isolated, reading hundreds of pages of documentation to fix a seemingly small bug and spending your evenings with your thoughts in your head, because you are doing at 9-5 five times a week at your job.
Beware of programming my friends.
