Richard Wiseman as a psychology professor was frustrated about the lineup of short, concise self-help books. So he wrote it, making topics like, happiness, creativity, attraction, etc. I actually found it in a LessWrong article, which described the sad way of current self-help era.
Happiness
- Make a journal: why are you grateful, what good things’ve happened to you, visualize an ideal future, experiences.
- Spend money on others and experiences instead of materialistic things.
- When spend time with others, do it in a batched way, so in 1 big piece, not distributed along the week.
- Force smiling for 15-30 sec.
Persuasion
- when doing an interview: what do you like in the firm, start with your weaknesses then turn to the strenghts, search for common points, make symphaty.
- Try to position yourself to the centre of the desk/picture/object.
- Benjamin Franklin effect: ask for a small favor for yourself because it can leads to your increasing likeability.
- Be positive, otherwise you’ll be identified as a non-likeable person.
Motivation
- Plan - > Goals -> Sub-goals -> Actions.
- Constantly remind yourself why are you doing things.
- Make positive reinforcement, give yourself rewards when you achieve something.
- Make a progress diary/chart/visualization.
- Visualize yourself in a 3rd person doing things.
- Why would you regret, if you fail?
Creativity
- Recognize all the informations, do something totally unrelated (like sudoku), then profit $$.
- Get plants to your workplace.
- Have a greeny wall in your room.
- Look for abstract pictures.
- Lay down on the floor.
Attraction
- Touch the upper arm of the another person.
- Mimic.
- Bravery beats all in liking.
- Have exciting experiences.
Relationships
- Look in the eye for a long period.
- Diverse programs.
- If you’re in struggle, for 3 days talk about your feelings / why are you a good couple and what are your bad behaviors good yields.
Stress
- What have you study from the bad experience?
- Listen classical music.
- Do some sun-bathing
- Laugh a lot.
